I published a book a little while ago using all of Marcus Paladino's photos. Long story short most photographers and artists alike have so much amazing work sitting around on their hard drives or studios. Most of which will more than likely never see the light of day for various reasons. Marcus has so much amazing work that he doesn't publish, or that his clients don't see the beauty in so he was a great first candidate for this project. I dove deep into his decades worth of surf imagery and pulled images to tell a gritty, dark, moody, and mysterious story of what it feels like to be a surfer in cold waters. The end result was a 90 page smyth sewn perfect bound soft cover book. I sourced some great uncoated papers from a mill in Switzerland and got it printed in Turkey. We had 3 launch parties - Vancouver, Tofino, & Victoria. Anyways, the book is now available for sale online on my shop page, on Marcus's website and a few very select surf shops on the B.C and Cali coast.
Back in December I was approached to design a set of 9 posters for the Deviation X-mas ball at the Legendary Ministry of Sound club in London. One of my first memorable heavy influences to house music was through the Ministry of Sound yearly mixtapes in 2006. Look up the 2006 mix, it's fire. A lot of french. Anyways, I was stoked on the opporunity as it was almost a bucket list type situ. Kenny dope was one of the main headliners who is absolute OG. They already had a main poster so my job was to create 9 other posters highlighting each one of the 9 dj's for the night. I came up with 2 different styes/directions which could be executed for all 9. Unforunately at the 12th hour they decided to go a totally different direction but i'm still keen on my posters. 2 of 9 below.
I found this record at the shop last week while doing some research for something else. I've never heard or seen it but I have another album by Satoshi & Makoto that is really fresh. I just assumed they were a music duo but makes sense that they do solo projects. Anyways. I can't find the full album or even tracks streaming online anywhere but there's a teaser of every track on soundcloud if you google it. If you like electronic ambient music it's worth a try.
Last year I was commissioned to shoot and edit a video as part of a new series for Department of Interest (DOI). The series highlights amazing homes, their designers, and focuses on preserving them rather than allowing new developers to come in and demolish. There's so much great design and architecture that already exists, not every block needs a modern build. It's series like these that help highlight and educate people so that historic pieces of design (and art) can be celebrated and preserved.
The first of this series focuses on the Carmichael house by Ron Thom. I shot, edited, and colour graded the short film. Score and sound design by Jolin Ras. Excited to see the rest of the series unfold.
AHMAD JAMAL. This man is what really made me fall in love with jazz,. This hip hop wax poetics rendition feels so nice right now but the original 'the awakening' album is equally a banger.
BRIAN YOU CRAZY FOR THIS ONE. LUXURIOUS JAZZ. Drop top Benz, sultry vocals, smooth baseline. What more do you want?!
